Surprise! This post has nothing to do with travel. Music is also a great love of mine, and I want to share what I’m listening to.
Song: White Flag
Album: I’m Alone, No You’re Not
Have you ever wanted to do something with your life that other people thought was crazy? Or impossible? Me, too. Do you notice what happens? When you stray from the path of socially accepted lifestyles, people think they need to speak up about it. Friends, family members, people you don’t even know might tell you things like ‘You can’t do it that way,’ ‘That will never work,’ or ‘Just give up already.’ It’s always tough doing something outside the box.
If there was ever a song that could respond to all that negative pressure, White Flag is the one. It sends a powerful message to the naysayers of the world that no matter how much they try to steer us away from our ambitions, we will never give up the fight to achieve the things we believe in. Just check out these chorus lyrics:
I could surrender but I’d
Just be pretending, no I’d
Rather be dead than live a lie
Burn the white flag
Burn the white flag
And hey, it’s always better to listen to an empowering song than it is to punch someone in their ugly face, right?*
White Flag is a song that breathes fight back into your soul whenever you hear it, and I like the way it’s put together. I think Joseph does some pretty cool stuff with their song composition, most notably the balance of the lyrics between all three crazy talented female vocalists in the group. I’m kind of a sucker for women singers, so the power that comes from three voices overlaying harmonies throughout their work is a huge draw for me. I could listen to this song all day!
*(Mmmm….. no. But don’t do it.)
